Are you looking for a new challenge? A change of pace? A chance to network with your peers? An opportunity to keep on top of this changing industry? Whatever your reasons, now could be the time to work behind the scenes of the STC Boston Chapter.
It's fun and the time that you want to commit is entirely up to you. Large or small your involvement will make a big difference to our chapter.
What Can I Do?
Ah! You asked - what can you do? Anything. Everything. Designers, proofreaders, editors, managers, greeters, sorters. There is work for you. Whether you prefer to be behind the scenes or visible, we need you. Only have 3 or 4 hours to spare? We can find a task for you. Have time for a larger commitment? Call and let us know! There are plenty of jobs to go around!
Want to see behind the scenes of the annual competition?
Join the Boston and Northern New England Competitions Committee. Do something behind the scenes, or step up and take on a management role. It's up to you.
Want to Shape Chapter Events?
Team up with the Programs or Workshop committees, get involved with the planning of Chapter activities. Help select topics, solicit speakers, and make site arrangements. Be a greeter, make a few phone calls, or help design a flyer. There are many ways to make a difference.
Learn About Internet and Web Publishing
Maybe you want to learn more about the Internet and Web publishing. Join the Internet committee and learn what it takes to FTP to a site, create and publish web pages, or maintain a listserver. As a member of this committee, you will gain access to these technologies you may not be able to learn in your daily job.
Do You Have a Special Interest?
Could you coordinate a SIG event, or help with one? Interested in the hot issues surfacing on the World-Wide Web? Perhaps you want to help the Internet SIG organize one of their bi-monthly events. If internationalization and localization is your domain, share your 'worldly' experiences with the International SIG. You say you're a contractor or consultant, but there is nothing out there for you. Help revive the Chapter's Contractor's and Consultant's SIG by becoming a coordinator for this SIG and share with others some of your triumphs and disasters.
Do You Like Public Relations?
We are looking for someone to lead the public relations activities of the Chapter. Here you can use your marketing or advertising background, or try your hand at it without risk.
Reach Out, Lend a Hand
Get involved with the Community Service committee. Help battle illiteracy, join the Walk for Hunger. You can make a difference. To reach out, contact Amy Anson at 617-227-3396 or send mail to .
Well, you say you want to get involved, but nothing seems to interest you. Then give Nan Fritz a call, and tell her what you would like to do. You can contact her at or (617) 354-2828.
