STC and Chapter Web Sites Offer Diverse Resources

By Daphna Edgar

After a long hot summer, cooler weather has set in and we have all turned our clocks back. The STC Boston Chapter continues to be busy with a full lineup of programs, SIG meetings, and Competitions. As the nights get longer and the weather colder, however, I'm sure everybody is ready for some cozy time away from the elements. Why not use the time to update some of your skills and take advantage of the services offered by the STC and chapter Web sites from the warmth and comfort of your home or office?

Online Meeting Rooms

Do you want to network with other STC members but cannot meet face-to-face? Perhaps you struck up a conversation with others at a recent chapter event and want to keep the momentum going. The STC Boston Chapter offers an online meeting room for its members. To guarantee that the Web site's online meeting room is available at a specific time, you can fill out a reservation form at You will receive confirmation regarding the availability of the room for the date and time you have selected. If the room is not available at the time requested, then the Webmaster will contact you to schedule another date.

Chapter Forums

Do you have a burning question that you want to pose to a technical communications professional, but don't know exactly whom to ask? Maybe you want to follow an ongoing discussion about a particular topic. If so, check out the chapter's Forums Page ( You can start a discussion by posting questions, or you can view previous discussions. If you are interested in one of the ongoing forums, including Tools and Technology and Consulting, then you can sign up to receive an e-mail whenever there is a new post to the forum.

The STC Website

The main Web site for the Society for Technical Communication,, contains a wealth of resources, including:

In addition to the resources that the STC makes available to the general public, the site also contains a Members Only section that contains premium content. Recently, you should have received a password to the site, which includes:

  • A Membership Directory
  • Take advantage of all the resources that STC has to offer you. If you did not receive an e-mail with your new password, or if you have deleted the e-mail, the Web page contains a form to have a password sent to you.

Other Chapters' Web Sites

Perhaps you are contemplating a move and want to gather more information about professional opportunities and activities in another city. Maybe you just want to read the features in another chapter's newsletter and check out its resources. You can easily access other STC chapters' Web sites (and online newsletters) through the main STC Web site at

The STC is a large international organization. Let's take advantage of the many rewards of membership!
