STC Boston Job Bank Gains in Popularity

By Georgette Gagne

Care to guess which part of the STC Boston Chapter Web site gets the most hits? The Job Bank (http://stc-boston.org/jobbank/bank.shtml). Although part of the reason for the popularity of the Job Bank is the sorry state of current employment, another part is the great success employers have filling openings with candidates from the STC Boston Chapter Job Bank. Employers report back that the quality of candidates they have seen from STC members far surpasses those received from other venues. These satisfied employers come first to the STC Boston Chapter Web site when they have openings. It saves them the time of sifting through hundreds of unqualified resumes and allows them to get the right person on board quickly.

We all wish for the days when multiple job openings were being posted every day. Even though there are not many positions out there, our members are finding them. Recently a committee met to work on a seminar on career planning for the new market, coming in the early fall. Two out of the four people in the room had accepted positions that they found in the Job Bank within the past six weeks. OK, so the sample is too small to be statistically valid, but it certainly was reassuring to know that there are at least some good jobs out there and our members are finding them.
