Competitions Wrap-up

Showcase at Rational Software Concludes Competitions 2000

By Ellen Lidington

Competitions 2000 wrapped up its current cycle with a very successful gathering of local documentation professionals at the annual Competitions Showcase on May 3 at Rational Software in Lexington. The Showcase, sponsored by the Boston Chapter of the STC, is held annually to give local documentation professionals the opportunity to see award winners from the local competitions.

The Showcase provides an opportunity for those attending to get a closer look at the online winning programs. In addition, they can play with the software, ask questions of its creators, and compare notes with others on how they are currently meeting their users' needs. It's an excellent opportunity to find out what's happening in the online world and how companies are using tools creatively. You need not be an STC member to attend.

About 50 people attended the event, sharing snacks and tips. The layout of the site allowed attendees to comfortably view the winning entries, as well as some of the award winners from the Publications competition. About seven entries were demonstrated together with many impromptu group presentations.

Competitions 2001 kicked off a new cycle on June 6. You can expect to see calls for entries and judges going out in early August. To participate in the planning of the competitions or to ask questions about judging or entering, contact Michelle Borelli at or Ellen Lidington at .
